Patna, March 4: Booking tickets on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website will be a tad easier now, with the corporation authorities introducing stringent norms to check fraudulent users.

A source said personal IDs on the website were often used for commercial purposes. This deprived passengers from booking tickets online. But now, no user will be allowed to create multiple IDs on the website.

“Passengers often complain about not getting tickets on the website. No user will be allowed to create more than one ID on the website. If a user violates the terms and conditions of registration, IRCTC will deactivate the registration and cancel all tickets that have been booked from that ID,” Patna IRCTC regional manager Anand Kumar Jha told The Telegraph.

In the wake of this decision, IDs of 25,000 users in the state and 14 lakh users from all over the country have been deactivated. On being asked how IRCTC would keep track of multiple IDs, Jha said: “While registering with the IRCTC website, a person will have to provide one of the eight identity proofs — passport, voter ID card, driving licence, PAN card, central or state government employee ID card, student ID card or passbook or credit card issued by a nationalised bank. “We will also take the help of the banks to track fraudulent users. Even if a person creates multiple IDs by providing wrong information to the website, we can always track them with the information of their debit or credit cards, that they use to book tickets,” he added

Only 10 tickets can be booked each month using a personal ID.
