Patna, Sept. 8: Keen to improve the academic atmosphere, Patna University vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh today appointed Kriteshwar Prasad as proctor and Binay Soren as examination controller.
Prasad, a teacher of the geology in the postgraduate department, would replace Shardendu as proctor. Soren, a political science teacher in the postgraduate department, would take over the charge of controller of examination from D.N. Sharma.
Singh told The Telegraph: “The two appointments have been made to bring administrative reforms in the working mechanism of the varsity.”
Prasad has been appointed to bring reforms in the varsity’s law and order. There has been a decline in discipline in the varsity in the past few months. Several incidents of eve-teasing and group clash occurred on the varsity campus recently.
When this academic session started, the Patna College witnessed an incident of ragging. A first-year geography department student was ragged by his seniors.
In mid-August, some boarders of Minto and Jackson hostels clashed with each other. Bombs were hurled during the row. The incident occurred when the newly appointed VC was at Patna College for an inspection.
In the last week of August, a few unruly students entered the official chamber of VC and misbehaved with him.
The university sources said Prasad had good control over students and would be able to put brakes on campus chaos. He was the proctor of the varsity earlier also when Y.C. Simhadri was the vice-chancellor.
He handled students indulging in anti-academic affairs strictly. The varsity hardly reported any incident of group clash during his earlier tenure as proctor.
Soren, on the hand, has been appointed as the examination controller to bring the academic calendar in order. During the tenure of Sharma, most of the examinations were conducted late. The results of several subjects were also delayed.
This year, the examination for all courses was supposed to be completed by May 15. The deadline for declaring results was May 30.
However, the examinations continued till June. Some results were published even in the month of August.
Several students who wanted to take admission in other universities could not do so because of the delay in the publication of results.
