Patna, March 25: Manu Maharaj, who turned out to be a terror for Maoists in rebel-hit Rohtas district, will be the new senior superintendent of police in Patna.

A 2005-batch IPS officer, Maharaj had served as Patna City superintendent of police in 2010 before he was transferred to Rohtas as district police chief.

Vikas Burman, posted as Banka superintendent of police, will replace Maharaj.

Around 100 IPS officers have been promoted and transferred today in one of the major shuffles in recent times.

Among the other major changes, DIG (Tirhut range) Sushil M. Khopde, a 1995-batch IPS officer, will be the Patna zonal IG. Amrit Raj, a 1998-batch IPS officer, who was serving as Patna SSP, will replace Khopde. Jayant Kant has been retained as Patna City SP.

Bhojpur superintendent of police M.R. Nayak will replace DIG (Bettiah range) Pankaj Darad, a 1995-batch IPS officer, who has been promoted to the rank of IG in charge of the Tirhut range.

Katihar superintendent of police Kim will go to Purnea in the same capacity. Similarly, Jehanabad superintendent of police Harpreet Kaur will take charge of Begusarai. Durhat Saayli, a 2010-batch officer, will replace Kaur.

East Champaran superintendent of police Ganesh Kumar and Gaya senior superintendent of police Vinay Kumar would swap their places. Amrit Raj’s wife K.S. Anupam, posted as Bhagalpur senior superintendent of police, will be the new DIG (Railways).

DIG (Darbhanga) Sudhanshu Kumar will replace M. Malar Vizhi, who was posted as DIG (Saran range) after Alok Kumar was suspended, has been made IG (provisions).

Madhepura superintendent of police Saurabh Kumar will be the Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police and Rajeev Mishra, who was serving as Madhubani superintendent of police, has been transferred to Lakhisarai.
