Patna, Jan. 13: Patna High Court has asked the state government to produce the merit list on Friday as declared by the recruitment board for the appointment of 8,800 constables.

A bench comprising Justice J.N. Singh asked the state government’s counsel to come up with the list after petitioners’ counsel Rajendra Singh pointed out that there were irregularities in the preparation of the merit list.

Singh submitted before the court that the names of those 3,500 odd candidates were missing from the finally prepared merit list despite clearing both written and physical examination.

On December 20, the high court had stayed the appointment of 8,800 constables on a bunch of petitions filed by some of the successful candidates challenging the entire appointment process of constables, alleging large-scale irregularities in the recruitment.

The names of these 3,500 candidates figured in the merit list for the 5,700 posts of constables published in October last year but just 2,200 appointments were made and the appointment of the remaining 3,500 candidates was withheld by the state government, Singh said.

These candidates alleged that the ones who qualified have lower marks than them.

After this, a written test was conducted for the appointment of constables for the first time. A physical test was conducted after 19,000 candidates were declared successful.
