Patna, Aug. 19: The Bihar State Housing Board (BSHB) would make one lakh dwellings within the next five years. It would also try to develop commercial units, including malls, hotels, multiplexes and office complexes, besides renovating the existing housing colonies in the state capital, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur.

The proposed schemes would be developed on a public-private-partnership mode for which BSHB had earlier invited expression of interest (EoI) from companies for development/renovation of its commercial/residential assets in the state.

In an initiative to attract top-notch firms in the housing schemes, BSHB had published advertisements for EoIs in newspapers in other states as well. A number of realty players have expressed their interest.

BSHB sources said 60 EoIs had been received till date from top firms, including DLF Home Developers Ltd, Mumbai-based Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS), Delhi-based Parsvnath Developers Ltd and Bengal-based Bengal Shristi Infrastructure Development Limited.

Over 10 sites in Patna and 20 in other major cities of the state are ready for development.

BSHB has appointed Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, a UK-based private company, as transaction advisor to assist it in project development.

Earlier, BSHB on July 6, had fetched around Rs 17 crore during an open auction of its plots at Sector IV of Bahadurpur Housing Board Colony. Prior to that, the board had demolished some of its buildings in Bahadurpur Colony, which had been declared dangerous for occupation. Most of the existing buildings in Bahadurpur and Lohianagar need renovation. Such flats would be demolished under the proposed schemes and original allottees would be given preference for occupation of the new flats.

BSHB is also taking a firm stand against the allottees violating the utilisation norms of its assets. Recently, it had cancelled the allotments of its plots to two upscale societies — Aniket Housing Society (IAS Colony) and Adarsh Co-operative Society — for alleged commercial utilisation of residential plots.
