Patna: This Sanki Daroga goes after rapists like a ton of bricks, punishing them in his own style.
But that is only as far as his latest Bhojpuri movie is concerned. The man playing the character isn't as worked up when asked about the umpteen rape and other incidents of crime against women in Bihar. Outside of the character he is playing, he defends the Bihar government when asked about the crime scene in the state. Meet Ravi Kishan, the actor.
The actor was in town on Sunday to promote his upcoming Bhojpuri film in which he plays a cop who hates rapists with a vengeance.
Produced under his home production, the film revolves around a policeman who is passionately tackling rape incidents. But question him about 34 rapes at a government funded short stay home for girls in Muzaffarpur and other recent incidents, like a woman being paraded naked in Bihiya and the curtain falls on Sanki Daroga.
"The government is doing good work in Bihar. That's the reason girls roam around freely anywhere in Bihar," Kishan said. He was all praise for the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar.
"I don't think there is any terror in Bihar. You can see that even the film's heroine is here and many people and girls are coming to Bihar. Women are doing shopping over here, they are going to college," He was seated next to the actress of the film, Anjana Singh.
The film is directed by Saif Kidwai and Kishan and Anjana are a hot favourite pair with viewers. The two have earlier worked together in films like Faulad, Love Aur Rajniti and Shahenshah. This is their fourth film together.
Of late, many questions are being raised over the law and order situation and safety of women in Bihar.
But Kishan, a leader of the BJP, which shares power with JDU in the state's NDA government, chose to defend the government.
He, however, kept repeating that whoever was responsible for crimes against women should be punished.
Kishan joined the BJP on February 19, last year, in the presence of party president Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi.
He did not forget to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of women's safety, claiming that he has taken several bold decisions as far as punishing rapists is concerned in India.
Kishan is a successful actor and has worked in over 400 films, of which 350 are Bhojpuri, the rest being Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
He has also worked in around 40 Hindi films. His first Bhojpuri movie was Saiya Hamar, released in 2001, and first Hindi movie Udhar ki Zindagi, released in 1994.
For the next one week he will be travelling across several cities in Bihar along with the actress to promote the movie.
He was in Begusarai on Monday and would be in Biharsharif on Tuesday.
