Patna, June 13: Three-and-a-half-hour-long morning showers today swept away with it the Monday blues professionals face on the first working day of the week.
Drizzles started at 8.40am — when people were getting ready for their office. The downpour continued till 12.10pm — long after they reached office wading through waterlogged streets.
Dense clouds had crowded the city skies before most of the citizens had their morning cuppa. By breakfast time, it was raining heavy. When they were out for office, the roads were flooded. It was raining, too.
Several office-goers headed to their workstations sporting raincoats.
Piyush Sinha, a resident of Mithapur area, said: “It was such a beautiful morning today. It was almost dark because of the dense clouds. The showers turned the atmosphere fresh and breezy. Thankfully, kids were in school. As the rain did not to stop by the time I leave for office, I started all covered in my raincoat. I thoroughly enjoyed the downpour and reached my office on time at 10.30am only to see few people on their desks.”
While the residents enjoyed the morning showers to the hilt, air passengers had testing times. Patna airport sources said the take-off of Patna-Delhi-Mumbai flight (G8-342) of Go Air was delayed by 38 minutes. Its scheduled time of departure was 9am. But it left at 9.38am.
The Mumbai-Ranchi-Patna flight of JetLite (S2-721) landed half-an-hour after its scheduled time of 9.40am.
The morning rain did not mark the arrival of monsoon, though. It was a case of isolated rainfall. Weathermen confirmed it.
“Development of thunderclouds over Patna resulted in gusty north-westerly winds. Its velocity was 40km per hour. The strong breeze was followed by pre-monsoon rainfall accompanied by thunders. The total rainfall was 27.2mm. The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 28.6°C. The mercury column dropped by four degrees because of the rain. The relative humidity increased by 20 per cent because of the showers,” Animesh Chanda, the director of the Patna Met department, said.
Although the rising humidity made life a bit uncomfortable in the second half of the day, the good news is more rainfalls are expected in the city in the next few days.
“The monsoon will take another four to five days to arrive in the state, but pre-monsoon showers are likely till then if the current weather conditions prevail,” added Chanda.
Unlike the citizens of the state capital, the residents of the other cities had to bear with hot and humid conditions. There was no rainfall today anywhere else except Patna.
