The vigilance investigation bureau has detected disproportionate assets worth over Rs 1.8 crore belonging to Patna Municipal Corporation executive engineer Lalan Prasad Singh.

The vigilance sleuths conducted raids on the official and residential premises of the engineer on Tuesday on the orders of the special vigilance court following registration of a case against him under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

A senior bureau official said on Wednesday the 24-hour search on the executive engineer's residential premises led to the seizure of documents related to investments in real estate, insurance policies and purchase of jewellery.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Singh, who was posted at the Kankerbagh circle of the municipal corporation, owned different plots of land in Patna, Sheikhpura and Nalanda districts. He also owned a four-storeyed house at Gandhi Nagar at an estimated worth of Rs 1.5 crore.

Singh and his family members have 14 bank accounts and own two expensive cars. Singh had also got an arms licence issued in his name and purchased a revolver. Gold and silver jewellery worth over Rs 8 lakh were also seized during the raid, the bureau official said.

The executive engineer had purchased a flat for his son, Abhishek Kumar, for Rs 25 lakh at Anand Palace in the Boring Road locality. His wife Neelam Devi owned 1.5 acres of land each at Rasalpur in Sheikhpura and Karon Tol in Nalanda districts.

The official said Singh had recently purchased a bond of Rs 1.4 lakh of a private bank and invested Rs 7.98 lakh in insurance policies.

'The raids yielded property worth Rs 2.55 crore. However, his total earnings stood at Rs 51 lakh from his salary and other resources. Hence he has been accused of accumulating disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.8 crore,' the official said, adding that all the bank accounts have been frozen.
