Shreyasi Singh, who won medals in shooting events at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, is yet to get the Rs 11-lakh prize money announced by the Bihar government.
The announcement had come from art, culture and youth affairs minister Vinay Bihari on August 24, almost a month after the 22-year-old Shreyasi won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 27.
Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi had repeated the same during the Khel Samman event on August 29.
However, more than two months since the announcement, the state has still not been able to contact Shreyasi and has no idea about her whereabouts.
Furthermore, the excuses, which had earlier become an embarrassment for the state, have started yet over again with the minister claiming he is 'too busy' to take the initiative and contact her or even direct his department to do the same.
'Once the state government announced the award, we had called up and requested her mother to inform me or the department about her arrival in India. Shreyasi was at a training camp in Italy then. The family has not communicated anything to us till now and we do not have a clue as to whether or not she is in the country. We want to organise a grand event for her,' Vinay told The Telegraph.
Shreyasi's family owns the Gidhaur estate in Jamui district. Her mother, Putul Singh, has been a politician, while her late father Digvijay Singh was a former Union minister. The family is based in Delhi.
Apart from her Commonwealth feat, Shreyasi clinched a bronze medal at the Asian Games at South Korea.
'Her mother can contact me and we will fix a date to felicitate her. I can also call her but I am a busy person. I work hard in office and also travel. It is very difficult for me to take out time. There shouldn't be an ego hassle in calling me or the department. When she won the medal at the Asian Games, I had spoken to the CM again and he had told me that the reward amount could be increased. At this moment, I can get information about Shreyasi only through newspapers or electronic media. I remain very busy and it is difficult for me to contact her,' the minister added.
The Telegraph managed to contact Shreyasi very easily. She said her family had little knowledge about the date of the function. 'I am in Delhi now but will only be free after December 12. I will be busy with my national championship and trials for selection in the 2015 Indian shooting team,' said Shreyasi.
