Patna, Sept. 26: Heavy downpour disrupted power supply in several areas of the city this morning.

The electricity supply to the state capital was badly affected as large trees fell on 33KV and 11KV lines at various places in the city. The worst-hit were the people residing in the eastern and western pockets of the city.

In some places the power tripped at 5am because trees feel on high- and low-tension wires. The power pang continued for almost 12 hours in some areas, leading to water scarcity.

The worst-hit areas included Danapur, Digha, Khagaul, Ashiana Nagar, Rajabazaar, Sheikhpura, Samanpura, Bailey Road, Boring Road, AG Colony, Excise Colony and Rajendra Nagar.

A few electric poles fell down on Aney Marg, where chief minister Nitish Kumar’s residence is. But the electricity supply to his home was not affected.

Bihar State Electricity Board spokesperson H.R. Pandey told The Telegraph: “The power supply was affected in the state capital and some towns of north Bihar as trees fell on high and low tension wires at various places. We have managed to restore supply in majority of the areas in the capital and the supply is expected to be restored by early evening in remaining areas.”

Pandey said power supply in Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj, Siwan and Chhapra were also affected.

“We are giving power to sewerage pumps round-the-clock to drain out water from various power sub-stations to ensure early resumption of electric supply,” Pandey added.
