Residents of the state capital would celebrate a bright Bihar Divas this year. Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (Pesu) said on Thursday it has made all the necessary arrangements to provide round-the-clock power supply.

Government offices as well as private buildings are decked up with blue lights for the three-day-long celebration. The authorities have also requested the residents to use blue lights to illumine their homes. Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation has also decorated the Buddha Smriti Park with bright lights.

Pesu has promised that there would be no unpleasant dark surprises on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“There will be cent per cent availability of power during the celebration days, especially on the three nights when the buildings will be illuminated. We have already carried out maintenance work for the occasion. Pesu will provide 24-hour electricity for the festival,” the general manager-cum-chief engineer of the undertaking, SKP Singh, told The Telegraph.

He added that Pesu’s focus would be Gandhi Maidan — the central venue of the celebrations — and its neighbouring areas. The control rooms of the undertaking would also work round-the-clock to receive and address complaints of the residents.

The prominent buildings around Gandhi Maidan are hotel Maurya, the Twin Towers, Reserve Bank of India, Minar Plaza, IMA building, Udyog Bhavan, police headquarters, SK Memorial Hall, Gandhi Museum, St Xavier’s School, State Bank of India and Biscomaun Towers. They have all been draped in blue-lights.

Asked about the additional requirement of power for the illumination, Singh said the load was not much, as LED lights and miniature bulbs — that consume less power — were used.

Singh said: “On account of lighting, around 15-20MW is being used.”

Patna’s daily power allotment is around 350MW. It goes up to 450MW in peak hours. Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) has also been drawing more than 1,500MW power.

The board spokesperson H.R. Pandey told The Telegraph: “BSEB on Thursday received 1,700MW. Of this, it got 1,200MW against the scheduled allocation of 1,772MW from the central sector. The state purchased 500MW from the open market.”
