Raxaul, May 4: Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan visited Raxaul today to check on quake victims from Nepal at its relief camps.

Apart from one by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) three other camps are being run by the Indian Oil Corporation, the state government and different social and non-government organisations.

The Union minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution also visited the SSB-run relief camp and interacted with the officials. Deputy inspector-general of police of SSB Sanjay Kumar and commandant Rakesh Sinha were present.

Addressing the media, Paswan lauded the steps initiated by the SSB for the quake victims and said nearly 15,027 of the 16,650 victims brought by the force from Nepal would stay at the camps till the situation normalised.

In his estimate of nearly 49,045 quake victims, 1,590 were from East Champaran. At least 10,434 have reached their destinations, while the rest are on their way back or staying at the relief camps.

"The Modi government is ready to extend every kind of help to Nepal in this crisis," said Paswan, appreciating Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala for his confession that Nepal was really fortunate to find a good neighbour in India.

Paswan also visited the Raxaul railway station and lauded the role of the Indian Railways in arranging free railway tickets for the victims.

Nearly, 1636 victims have been provided free railway tickets for their destinations.

If some victims are on their way back, some quake victims from Nepal are choosing different homes.

Priyanka Choudhary, Ramesh Choudhary, Hema Choudhary and Maan Singh from Kathmandu have decided to leave Nepal and search for a better option in Delhi.
