PARALLEL RELIEF: The 1.95km pontoon bridge parallel to Gandhi Setu was opened to public on Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief to commuters. The Patna district administration has deployed adequate number of police to regulate traffic over the pontoon bridge. The bridge, however, has been opened with a few terms and conditions. Traffic movement from Hajipur to Patna will be allowed from 6am to 1pm and in the other direction from 1.30pm to 6pm. No vehicle will be allowed to take the pontoon bridge after 6pm because the bridge lacks illumination. The district administration has asked the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited to install lights on the bridge so that it could be used in the night as well. The bridge can take a load of around 10,000 vehicles daily, though heavy vehicles continue to use the eastern flank of the Gandhi Setu. The western flank of the setu has been closed as it is being restructured. Text by Amit Bhelari, picture by Sachin
