Muzaffarpur, Jan. 7: Four juvenile delinquents having links with a jailed extortionist were arrested in Sitamarhi on Tuesday evening after they ran from a Muzaffarpur remand home last week.

Police claimed the four delinquents confessed they were in touch with Chiranjivi Sagar, a criminal lodged in Sitamarhi jail on extortion charges.

The involvement of juvenile delinquents with criminals has prompted senior officers to issue orders for strict vigil at the remand homes.

In the current case, seven inmates fled from the Muzaffarpur remand home on January 3. Four of them were arrested from house of a criminal, Nagendra Singh, at Khairva village in Sitamarhi district. Police recovered two firearms and cellphones from the juvenile delinquents.

Deputy superintendent of police, Sitamarhi, Mithlanand Upadhyaya said: 'During interrogation, the youths accepted that they were in constant touch with Chiranjivi Sagar, who was lodged in Sitamarhi jail till Tuesday. The youths also revealed a plan had been hatched to kill assistant jailer of Sitamarhi Sudhir Kumar for acting tough with Sagar. He ensured Sagar was strictly monitored at the jail. Sitamarhi district magistrate Pratima S. Verma issued an order to transfer Sagar from Sitamarhi jail. He was shifted to Bhagalpur Central Jail today.'

Zonal inspector-general Paras Nath directed senior superintendent of police, Muzaffarpur, Ranjit Kumar Mishra to maintain vigil on the remand homes to ensure they did not play into the hands of history-sheeters, while Muzaffarpur district magistrate Anupam Kumar ordered a medical board to be set up for determining age of the inmates there.
