Trivia-lovers and fans of funda, make up your teams because the first edition of the Patna Open Quiz competition will be held in the city next Sunday.
Civil society initiative Extra C has organised the quiz after playing an active part in organising various online and offline crossword competitions. The open quiz will be conducted at Aranya Bhavan near the Patna airport and as the name suggests, would be open for people of all age groups.
Eager quizzers or people just interested in trivia can register themselves as two-member teams at 10am on July 30, the Q-Day. Registration will be free for school and college teams.
The quiz will start at 11am.
The teams will undergo a preliminary round in written format and the top six teams from the prelims will make it to the finals for a chance at a podium finish.
"In case of general teams, the top four scorers will qualify for the finals and the top scorers among the schools and colleges will qualify for the other two spots. In case the participating schools or colleges have scored more than the general teams then the number of schools or colleges picked for the finals may go up," event coordinator Kushagra Singh told The Telegraph.
Prizes worth Rs 25,000 will be up for grabs in different categories of participants and all of them would be given a certificate of participation.
Kushagra said the main goal to conduct the event was to create an environment for quizzing in the city so that more and more people could get interested in it and make an effort to add to their knowledge.
Quizzers - skilled or not - should expect questions from current affairs, sports, science, history and geography among others. Nature and wildlife, and questions specific to Bihar will also be fielded. Audio-visual rounds will keep the quizzers on their toes too.
"The questions will be very general in nature and one does not need to read special books or make extra preparation to sit for the quiz," said Kushagra.
To make sure the quiz is conducted up to standard, Extra C has engaged the services of Nexus Consulting and Venky Srinivasan, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore, will conduct the finals.
Extra C will put up posters in all major schools and colleges in the city, apart from around Patna landmarks, to attract prospective participants to the open quiz.
Arden quizzer and senior IAS officer Vivek Kumar Singh, who has sat in Quiz Time conducted by eminent quizmaster Siddhartha Basu, is the patron of the event. He said: "I hope the students of Patna will benefit from this event the most, as they would be exposed to a quiz of national level. I also hope the open quiz creates an environment that would ultimately contribute positively to society."
