Land scam probe

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said investigations were under progress in the alleged land scam in Araria district and strict action would be taken against those found guilty in the case. t has come to light that some brokers, allegedly working hand-in-glove with government officials, purchased land from residents at a cheap price and then sold it to the government at a much higher rate. The land was later distributed to Mahadalit families under a government scheme.

Bail

Patna: Chief judicial magistrate, Araria, on Wednesday granted bail to anti-trafficking activist and Apne Aap Women Worldwide member Mohammed Kalam, who was arrested on charges of trafficking on June 1.

Suicide

Patna: A middle-aged married woman, Pinki Devi, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home on Makhaniya Road on Wednesday.

Red attack

Gopalganj: Suspected Maoists shot dead two persons, including Sumit Chaubey, a supervisor in a construction company, in Bettiah on Wednesday. One person was injured in the attack.
