More revenue from VAT

Patna: The state government is eyeing around Rs 450 crore revenue through additional value added tax (VAT), which became effective from April 1. People in Bihar will now have to pay 1 per cent additional VAT on items included under the bracket of 12.5 per cent VAT. Items on which VAT was imposed at the rate of 4 per cent earlier, would not attract 5 per cent VAT.

MLA demand

Patna: JD (U) MLA Rajiv Ranjan on Sunday demanded introduction of a system, which would allow voters to recall their representatives (MLAs and MPs) in case they were not satisfied with the performance of their representatives.

Net chapter

Patna: The UK chapter of Bihar Foundation started its own website (www.biharfoundation.co.uk). The Bihar Foundation is the state government’s initiative to bring Biharis across the world closer.

Modi bats

Patna: Drawing a parallel between the performance of Team India in World Cup and performance of the NDA government in Bihar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Sunday said the way Indian cricketers performed well despite adverse conditions, the NDA government too had put the state on path of development though it came to power in the state at a time when conditions were unfavourable. Modi said while speaking at a prize distribution ceremony in Patna.

Kirti happy

Patna: President of Association of Bihar Cricket and BJP MP Kirti Azad has expressed happiness over India’s victory in the World Cup. Azad said chief minister Nitish Kumar should invite the members of the Indian cricket team and felicitate them.

Threat call

Purnea: JD (U) MLA from Rupauli Bima Bharti and her husband Awadhesh Mandal informed the Purnea superintendent of police that they received a threat call on their phone on Sunday.
