HC order against officials

Patna: Patna High Court on Friday directed the state government to take steps against officials involved in misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 6.7 crore for the purchase of medicines, chemicals and equipment for Patna Medical College and Hospital. division bench of judges Shiva Kirti Singh and Hemant Kumar Srivastava passed the order on a public interest litigation filed by one Guddu Baba.

SC verdict

Patna: The Supreme Court has upheld mayor Afzal Imam’s decision to form a new and empowered standing committee for Patna Municipal Corporation. According to the ruling, the committee will have members nominated by the mayor.

Debate

Patna: Budding lawyers and legal experts took part in the three-day Chanakya National Law University National Parliamentary Debate, 2011, that began on Friday on the varsity premises.

Workshop

Patna: BEd students of Women’s Training College took part in a personality-grooming workshop organised by National Service Scheme on the institute premises from March 30. The workshop will conclude on April 5.

Convocation

Patna: Around 62,000 students of Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) would be awarded degrees at the 22nd annual convocation function at Sadaqat Ashram on April 2. Patna Ignou regional director Qaseemuddin Haider said the varsity would soon operate from its new premises at Mithapur.

Complaint

Purnea: Chief Judicial Magistrate Daya Lal Prasad ordered that an FIR be lodged against superintendent of police Amit Lodha, deputy superintendent of police (town) Binod Kumar and 11 other people for erroneously implicating one Premlal Mahto in case no 13/11 of sadar police station, instead of the prime accused, Premlal Sahani.

Bills

Patna: Principal accountant general Preman Dinaraj and accountant general (A&E) I.D.S Dhariwal said in a news meet on Friday that Rs 15,850 in detailed contingency bills had not yet been adjusted despite several audit objections.

Benefits

Patna: The state government, in an effort to simplify the process of allotting Indira Awas Yojana, has decided that an affidavit from the beneficiary concerned would be taken before extending the benefits. Earlier, extensive verification used to be conducted.

Kidnap bid

Chhapra: Srishti, a Class III student of Arya Kanya Vidyalaya, thwarted an attempt to kidnap her and also got Shambhu Mahto, the man who tried to abduct her, arrested.
