Groups clash in hostel

Patna: Tension erupted at Saidpur hostel of Patna University under Bahadurpur police station on Tuesday after two groups of students clashed over the occupancy of some hostel rooms. he incident took place around 3pm, the police said. Sources said the clash resulted in some fire shots. There have been no injuries and casualties in the incident, the police said.

Power relief

Gopalganj: People of 10 districts heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday as power supply was restored from 8am after repairing the transformer. Assistant engineer of grid power sub-station at Arar, S.K. Gupta said the transformer of the grid had suddenly developed some snag leading to disruption of supply of power. Ten districts like Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Hajipur, Raxaul, Motihari, Bettiah and other places like Ramnagar and Phulparas drew supply from there. The supply was both for rural and urban areas, he added.

Conference

Chhapra: Paradeep Phosphate Limited, Patna on Tuesday organised a retailers’ conference in which 100 retailers dealing with fertilisers took part. Inaugurating the conference, S.P. Singh, the state marketing manager, said the company was committed towards uplifting the condition of farmers and with this approach, the company till now has adopted 20 villages in the state and 200 villages in the country.

Business scare

Patna: Bihar Industries Association (BIA) on Tuesday expressed concern over the Reserve Bank of India’s decision to hike repo and reverse repo rates. BIA president S.P. Sinha said the rate hike would further harden the interest rates as cost of funds will become costlier. It would adversely affect the credit supply to industries.

Kargil homage

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday paid homage to martyrs of Kargil war in the state function organised to mark the Kargil victory. Nitish laid a wreath at the Kargil memorial to pay homage to martyrs. Members of Danapur Regimental Centre gave guard of honour on this occasion.

Meeting

Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi would pay a visit to Samastipur on Wednesday during which he would take part in the district-level co-ordination committee meeting of banks. He would review the status of government schemes through banks. Modi, who holds the additional charge of co-operative department, would also review the activities of the department during his visit to the district.

Hindi

Patna: Bank of India zonal manager Kulbhushan Jain on Tuesday underlined the importance of Hindi. He said this while delivering a speech in a programme organised by Rajbhasha Implementation Committee to mark the commencement of Hindi essay competition.
