Breather for DIG bail cry

Patna: A high court bench of Justice Hemant Kumar Srivastava on Thursday directed authorities concerned not to take coercive action against suspended deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) Alok Kumar till the final disposal of his bail petition. he bench, while hearing the DIG’s petition seeking grant of anticipatory bail, also remanded the matter in the Muzaffarpur vigilance court. The DIG has been accused of demanding Rs 10 crore as extortion money from Tunnaji Pandey, a representative of a country-made liquor firm.

Cancer talks

Patna: NGO Cancer Awareness Society and World Health Organisation on Thursday organised a workshop for the nursing faculty of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences on the institute premises.

Power offer

Patna: The North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd would launch Own Your Transformer Scheme from July 1, a press release said on Thursday. Residential apartments, commercial premises, administrative office premises, shops, marketing complexes, schools, nursing homes, private hospitals, showrooms, a group of rural consumers and urban consumers can avail the benefits of the scheme. Under the scheme, consumers belonging to aforementioned categories can buy own transformers if their load is above 7KW and less than 70KW. Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd would provide the technical support as well as the load strength to the premises according to the requirement. The holding company would also repair fault.

Court pass

Patna: A person or client wishing to attend court proceedings would have to furnish identity proof for issue of visitor’s pass in Patna High Court, a notice issued by the registrar-general said on Thursday. The new arrangement will come into effect from July 1.

World Bank project

Patna, June 27: An agreement for credit of $84 million from the World Bank for the Bihar Panchayat Strengthening Project was signed in New Delhi on Thursday. ilay Mitash, joint secretary, department of economic affairs, ministry of finance, and Michael Haney, operations adviser, World Bank, India, signed the agreement. Amitabh Verma, principal secretary, panchayati raj, signed the documents on behalf of the state government.

Tributes

Patna: A function was organised at the Surendra Pratap Singh Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication, Patna, on Thursday to pay tributes to journalist Surendra Pratap Singh on his 16th death anniversary. Former Bihar Congress chief Anil Kumar Sharma, institute director Samir Kumar Singh and director-general of Dr Zakir Hussain Institute U.K. Singh were among those who paid tributes to Singh.

Sentence

Patna: Additional district and sessions judge Nand Kumar Srivastava on Thursday sentenced Ajay Sao (40), a resident of Bochchak under the jurisdiction of Phulwarisharif police station, to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment in connection with an attempt to murder case.
