Girl, 13, cries rape

• Samastipur: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four youths when she was returning home from a village fair on September 28.

The girl, a student of Class VIII, reported the incident to the Hasanpur police on Tuesday, four days later. The police have registered a case and conducted raids to nab the accused, said to be neighbours of the victim.

Fuel prices

• Patna: Petrol price came down to Rs 72.74 a litre and diesel to Rs 60.52 a litre on Wednesday, a day after the Centre's decision to reduce the basic excise duty on the fuels.

Statement

• Patna: A criminal investigation department team visited the house of a teenaged girl who was gang-raped in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday and recorded her statement. The team, led by a female DSP, also collected the clothes the girl was wearing at the time of the incident. Katra police have seized the cellphone used to make a video of the assault from one of the four accused arrested on Tuesday.

• Patna: Samar Bagchi, a science communicator, will explain different laws of physics through small and simple experiment set-ups in a programme to be organised by Shri Krishna Science Centre on October 6.

Drugs bust

• Patna: Anti-narcotics bureau personnel seized around 100kg of marijuana during a raid on the office of a private courier company on Exhibition Road on Wednesday.

Liquor haul

• Muzaffarpur: Police seized around 350 cartons of liquor and arrested the driver of a truck during a vehicle checking drive on Tuesday night.

GST

• Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Modi on Wednesday underlined the need of making the IT system user-friendly for filing GST returns.

Workshop

• Patna: The Bihar State Pollution Control Board on Wednesday organised a workshop in Munger on use of cleaner technology by brick kilns.

BJP meet

• Patna: Road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday said arrangements had been made for hosting the BJP working committee meet on October 6 and 7 in the Patna City area.

Tributes

• Patna: Floral tributes were paid on the mortal remains of senior BJP leader Shivendra Kumar Rai on Wednesday. His body had been brought to the party office where senior leaders, including party president Nityanand Rai and vice-president Devesh Kumar, paid tributes, said a BJP press note.

Jailbreak bid

• Gopalganj: Gopalganj prison authorities on Wednesday foiled an alleged jailbreak bid by about half a dozen Maoists lodged in the district jail. Jail superintendent Sandip Kumar said the rebels planned to escape after breaking open a drain at the jail hospital on Tuesday night. An FIR has been lodged with Chanawe police station in this connection.

Two held

• Nawada: The police arrested two persons from Nadariganj police station area of the district on Wednesday on the charge of gangraping a minor girl on September 30. The girl's brother reported the incident to the Nawada woman police station, which swung into action and arrested two of the six accused.
