Woman dies in mishap

Motihari (PTI): A woman was killed and four others were injured on Wednesday when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the Areraj-Motihari road in East Champaran district.olice said the accident occurred after the vehicle carrying six people rammed into a railing of a culvert. Girija Devi (45) died on the spot. The body has been sent for post-mortem. The injured persons have been admitted to the sadar hospital. The driver fled.

Dowry death

Muzaffarpur (PTI): Lal Babu Ram, a resident of Dakshin Tola village, allegedly killed his wife Pramila Devi for dowry. The body was found buried in a field in the village. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Ram and his family members are absconding.

Iraq to home

Patna: The district administration has made special arrangements to receive 46 Bihar residents who have returned from Iraq. Special vehicles have been stationed at the railway station to send the people to the bus stand from where they can proceed to their homes in different parts of Bihar.

Computers

Chhapra: Three police stations in Saran district would be equipped with computers and broadband connections. Saran superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar Singh on Wednesday said the facilities would become functional within 15 days. He added that the police hospital in the district would also get new facilities.

Robbery cuffs

Gopalganj: Five persons involved in a highway robbery were arrested on Wednesday. A truckload of tealeaves worth Rs 30 lakh was stolen on Monday night from an area under the jurisdiction of Kuchaikot police station. The truck owner lodged an FIR on Tuesday. Earlier, 11 persons were taken into custody, but six of them were let off after interrogation, police said.

TV show

Patna: Non-government organisation Population Foundation of India launched Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon, a trans-media drama series seeking to promote strong women characters, in Patna on Wednesday. The series would be telecast on DD Bihar from July 10.

CM lists budget needs

Patna, July 9: Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi today said special provisions should be made in the Union budget to improve the state’s financial condition. e said the Centre should reimburse Rs 1,000 crore to Bihar, which it spent for the upkeep of national highways. He also asked for support to Bihar in power projects.

Patna: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday expressed happiness over the elevation of Amit Shah to the post of the BJP’s national president. Yadav said Shah had extraordinary capacity on the organisation front and he exhibited it in Uttar Pradesh during the Lok Sabha elections.

Flood woes

Patna: Pataliputra MP Ram Kripal Yadav on Wednesday raised the problems residents of the diara areas in his constituency face during floods every year, in Parliament. He urged the Centre to arrive at a permanent solution to the problem.

Census survey

Patna: The rural development department has written letters to all the district magistrates asking them to accept objections from people whose names have been left out in the ongoing socio-economic and caste census work. The department, a official note on Wednesday said, has also sent the format in which the objections had to be received.

Bettiah: West Champaran MP Sanjay Jaiswal demanded in Parliament on Wednesday that the Central University of Bihar in Champaran be named after Mahatma Gandhi.

Kid sacrifice

Aurangabad: Akhilesh Kumar, a 12-year-old boy allegedly kidnapped with the intent of being sacrificed at a Kali temple in the district on Tuesday evening, was rescued on Wednesday by residents of Khirayawan village. Jagan Bhagat, the alleged sorcerer, managed to flee.

Cash loot

Siwan: Six armed criminals looted Rs 3.8 lakh from one Rajesh Kumar at Basopali village under Mufassil police station on Wednesday evening. The victim was returning after withdrawing cash from a bank at Siwan. n FIR has been lodged.
