A team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (Naac) arrived at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University on Tuesday to prepare a report ahead of an inspection of the institute by the council.
The three-member team would assess the university’s financial requirements and report the matter to the University Grants Commission (UGC) in June. The team, comprising Bharat Chath (chairman), K.K. Raina and Sudipto Banerjee, first visited the Academic Staff College, which trains teachers in orientation courses.
The team, however, was not happy with its arbitrary style of functioning. Vice-chancellor (VC) Bimal Kumar had instructed principals of all 39 constituent colleges to be present at a review meeting. However, only 11 principals turned up. The VC has served showcause notices on the principals who defied the order.
The team sought details of the functioning and financial expenses incurred by the Academic Staff College in the past five years. It also reviewed the functioning of the varsity’s council and spoke to the course co-ordinator and recourse persons.
The VC said: “The team has sought necessary papers of financial grant provided to the university under the Eleventh Five Year Plan. The team also sought utilisation certificates of funds granted by the UGC to all sections of the university.”
The team, which will be in Muzaffarpur for three more days, would conduct on-the-spot inspection and review functioning of the varsity’s postgraduate departments, constituent colleges and administrative and technical wings. Based on its report, a Naac team would visit the university for inspection in July-August.
