Police filed a chargesheet against rape-accused Nawada MLA Raj Ballabh Prasad and five others in court on Friday.

Raj Ballabh, suspended by the RJD, is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl on February 6. He surrendered before Biharsharif court in Nalanda on March 10 and has been in judicial custody since then.

Deputy inspector-general (central range) Shalin told The Telegraph that the police would now press for speedy trial in the case.

"The chargesheet was filed in the Biharsharif court on Friday and the police have done a thorough investigation," Shalin said. "All aspects of the case have been looked into and the police have found the MLA guilty of rape. The police will now request the court for a speedy trial."

According to the FIR lodged by the victim at the women's police station in Biharsharif on February 9, Sulekha, an associate of the MLA, befriended the victim and lured her to his house in Giriyak on the border of Nalanda and Nawada. Raj Ballabh allegedly raped her there.

"The MLA has been booked under sections related to sexual assault of the Indian Penal Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Illegal Trafficking Prevention Act," Shalin said. "In the course of investigation, the police found more evidence of the MLA's involvement."

Nalanda district magistrate Thiyagarajan SM said the administration was in touch with the girl.

"Just a few days ago, the girl's sister called up to say that she was not well and was vomiting," he said. "We immediately sent a team of doctors. She is alright now. The administration has provided the family security too."
