Patna, Aug. 3: Thirteen-year-old Vidya, a resident of Chandmari Road under Kankerbagh police station, returned to her family today after an FIR, suspecting a case of abduction, was lodged by the family yesterday.
Vidya, who lives in Patna with her uncle’s family, came to the Kankerbagh autorickshaw stand this morning and gave a call to her family to come and take her back.
While the girl said she was kidnapped on Monday afternoon when she had gone out to buy few things from a shop in the neighbourhood and was again brought to the autorickshaw stand this morning, the police are refuting her claim. The family had searched for her but she could not be traced and then, at 1am on Tuesday the family had received an anonymous call demanding Rs 5 lakh as ransom.
The police, however, said Vidya had chosen to go away with her boyfriend, Dhiraj, a neighbour. The police claim if Vidya was kidnapped as she and her family are claiming, how did her abductors release her without receiving any ransom. An officer at Kankerbagh police station said: “The girl had gone to Biharsharif with a friend of Dhiraj, who was waiting for them at Biharsharif. It is not a case of abduction. The family and the girl are claiming that she was kidnapped and that the family had received an abduction call. The phone records will be checked in this connection. If it was a kidnapping for ransom, why was the girl let off without any payment?” city superintendent of police (central) Shivdeep Lande said the matter was being investigated.
“It doesn’t look like a kidnapping case. The girl had a boyfriend and they were in a relationship for two years now. All the aspects of the case are being looked into and the truth will come out soon. If the police are being given false information, it is a very serious matter,” Lande said.
