Gaya: The National Minority Commission is unhappy with the security arrangements at Mahabodhi Mahavihara.
Calling the system "irksome" and "disrespectful" to the Buddhist clergy, the commission has recommended a less obtrusive advanced security system in which shrine entrants are not required to pass through doorframe metal detectors or body search. The existing system is not visitor-friendly, felt the minority body.
Commission member Sulekha Kumbre registered the minority body's reservations during interaction with mediapersons in Gaya on Thursday.
"The arrangement is disrespectful to the clergy as, like ordinary visitors, robed monks, including those from abroad, are made to pass through obtrusive doorframe metal detectors and other security protocol at the shrine entrance and elsewhere in Bodhgaya," said Khumbre.
