The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is toying with the idea of probing the Intermediate results of 2015.

The special investigation team (SIT) has found gross irregularities there. BSEB chairman Anand Kishor told The Telegraph on Friday that the board was awaiting the police's report. "Once the report arrives, it will be studied and further course of action decided," Anand said.

Earlier this week, the police had arrested former BSEB secretary Sri Nivas Tiwari who, in his statement, told the police about irregularities in the 2015 exams. Around 100 Vishun Roy College students were given abnormally high marks, he had told police.

At that time, Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh was board chairman. Many were shocked that so many students from just one college secured such high marks. The education department formed an unfair means committee to probe the matter. Investigations showed many students' copies bore the same marks or a mismatch in marks on their answer sheets and their mark sheets (more in the latter). But Lalkeshwar chose to take no action.

Vivek Kumar, who was the Intermediate science topper last year, told The Telegraph on Thursday how his position was suddenly given to a Vishun Roy College student and all his pleadings went unheard.

"Police investigation points at irregularities during last year's Intermediate exams," Patna SP (Central) Chandan Khuswaha said. "But it is for the BSEB to decide whether to investigate it or not."

BSEB sources said an investigation could mean a lot of things, including holding a re-test for the former toppers.

"It is definitely a tedious task, considering that the students will have to be contacted and asked to come," an official said. "Most of them could very well be studying in other institutions."

Cops have identified the deputy development commissioner, who during his posting in Munger in 2014 had facilitated the posting of contract teacher Anil Thakur as personal assistant to Lalkeshwar.

"The man is Narendra Kumar," Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj, who is heading the SIT, told The Telegraph. "However, his present place of posting is not known and a letter has been sent to the general administration department for the same. It is learnt that Vivek Kumar, absconding son-in-law of Lalkeshwar, has applied for anticipatory bail. Raids are on to arrest absconding toppers and their parents. The police have more evidence against former secretary Srinivas Tiwari. It is being verified."
