District magistrate Sanjay Kumar hands over the trophy of Gaya Premier League (GPL) to MSY Heroes players on Sunday. In a nail-biting last-ball finish, MSY Heroes (MSYH) clinched the title of the first GPL from Maharani Heroes (MH) by three wickets in a packed Harihar Subrahmanian Stadium at Gaya’s Gandhi Maidan. Around 15,000 spectators — a rare sight for residents of Gaya — witnessed the pitched battle. Deepak Virat of MSYH, who scored 228 runs, including three half centuries in five matches to remain on top among other batsmen, was declared the Man of the Series. Giridhar Gopal of Rochester Basera, who took 12 wickets in four matches, got the Best Bowler trophy. The winning team was given Rs 1 lakh cash and the trophy, while the runners-up got Rs 50,000 cash and trophy.
