Patna, Oct. 13: The orthopaedics department of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) today organised a workshop on knee joint replacement surgery. Dr K.H. Sancheti, who has patented Indus knee, was the chief guest at the event.
Padma Bhushan Dr Sancheti, who has performed more than 1,000 successful knee joint replacements, discussed the procedure with a PowerPoint presentation.
He also discussed the product he has developed — Indus high flex knee prosthesis — and performed a live knee joint replacement surgery before the orthopaedics and PMCH faculty members.
Dr R.N. Suman, an associate professor at PMCH, said: “It’s a big honour to have Dr Sancheti among us. This workshop will prove instrumental in the field of knee joint replacement surgeries in the state. There are many doctors at PMCH who are involved in knee joint replacement surgeries but the treatment is still very costly here. If Dr Sancheti’s Indus knee is introduced in PMCH, the expenses of the operation will come down.”
Dr Dilip Sinha, an orthopaedic surgeon in the city, said: “It is clear that the state government wants to usher in development in every sector. But, if they really want to do so, they should also ensure the development of knee joint replacement surgeries here. It will be good if the state government ensures the availability of Dr Sancheti’s Indus knee at PMCH.”
