Journey on glory road

Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, who helms the road construction department, will present the "success story" of Bihar's roads in London and at the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland.

Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, who helms the road construction department, will present the "success story" of Bihar's roads in London and at the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland.

It will be his first foreign trip as deputy chief minister.

Asked about the purpose of his visit, Tejashwi said on Wednesday: "I am going there to share the state's experience of how Bihar has scripted a success story in the road sector and how we can adopt their (foreign) technology as far as safety, security and road construction are concerned."

Tejashwi will be in the United Kingdom from August 8 to 13. From August 15 to 18, he will be in Switzerland. A delegation of 10 engineers of the road construction department, in addition to department adviser Sudhir Kumar and secretary Pankaj Kumar, will also be part of the team.

While Tejashwi will visit two countries, the engineers will visit three more, including France, Germany and the Netherlands. The engineers will learn about the latest technology being used in road construction and how to improve infrastructure.

Sanjay Yadav, private secretary to the deputy chief minister, , said: "His first visit will be to the Institution of Civil Engineers, London, where the deputy chief minister will make a presentation apart from taking part in a knowledge transfer sharing session. He will also make site visits of different roads and bridges in London."

Tejashwi will catch his flight from New Delhi on August 8 early morning and his first presentation will on August 10 at the Institution of Civil Engineers, London.

Sanjay said: "In Geneva, he will make a presentation in front of the International Road Federation, where he will talk about Bihar roads."

The federation is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation founded in Washington DC in 1948 to encourage and promote development and maintenance of better, safer and more sustainable roads and road networks around the world.

At the UN office, Tejashwi will take part in a programme of the UN Economic Commission for Europe where a discussion will be held on road safety and world road statistics. He will also take part in a programme where a presentation will be made on traffic management.

Tejashwi will return to New Delhi on August 19.
