Around 7,000 personnel of the special auxiliary police (SAP) have postponed their agitation after the state government gave in to some of their demands.

The jawans had threatened to surrender their arms before respective superintendents of police on Wednesday to press for their demands.

The secretary of the National Ex-Servicemen Co-ordination Committee (Bihar unit), Ashok Kumar Singh, said they decided to defer the agitation after home department principal secretary Amir Subhani and director-general of police Abhayanand promised to consider some of their demands.

Singh said the officials assured the committee that increase in uniform allowance and number of leaves would be conceded. According to assurances, the jawans would get Rs 15,000 as monthly consolidated salary instead of Rs 12,000. They would be paid Rs 4,000 as uniform allowance instead of Rs 1,200 and would also be allowed to proceed on 40 days’ leave per annum in place of 20.

Subhani said the government decided to increase the consolidated monthly salary and uniform allowance keeping performance in mind.
