Patna, Dec. 5: An accused in the infamous Nawada jailbreak incident, Yugeshwar Mahto, was arrested from Panchi village under Sheikhopur Sarai police station in Sheikhpura district on Sunday.

The sub-divisional police officer of Sheikhpura, Santosh Kumar Gupta said that acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid on Panchi village and took Mahto into custody.

A warrant of arrest was pending against Mahto, who is said to be an active member of a notorious criminal gang of Nawada led by Ashok Mahto, for long, he said. The Sheikhpura SDPO said that Mahto’s antecedents were being collected.

“We have informed the Nawada police about Mahto’s arrest as he was evading arrest in the Nawada jail- break incident since 2001,” the SDPO said.
