Two persons, including a minor girl, were burnt to death and two others suffered serious injuries when a group of people allegedly set a house on fire at Khalidpur village in Muzaffarpur district, around 80km north of Patna, early on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 3am when Sonelal Rai (55) was sleeping in his room. His two-year-old granddaughter, Gudia, also died in the fire.

In his statement before the police, Sonelal said he saw some people fleeing after setting his house on fire. His wife, Kanchan Devi, and younger daughter, Nitu Kumari, suffered over 50 per cent burn injuries.

The Ahiyapur police station officer, Chitranjan Thakur, said the other injured were undergoing treatment and were critical.

Property dispute was stated to be the reason behind the incident.The police have detained Sonelal's other daughter Vibha Devi, whose husband is suspected to be involved in the incident.
