Gaya: The man who allegedly molested two female attendants inside the premises of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) a few days back has turned out to be an intern.

Police identified the culprit on the basis of available evidence, including statement of the attendants and the number of the bike of the accused.

A photograph of the intern was shown to the attendants and they confirmed it was that of their tormentor. The incident has caused embarrassment to hospital authorities.

A few days back, the two women had complained to the hospital administration and the police that they were molested by a hospital insider who claimed to be a doctor and offered help in treating patients admitted to the hospital's orthopaedic ward. While one woman attendant was molested near the X-ray room, the other was molested near the orthopaedic ward.

Confirming the identity of the accused, Medical College police station house officer (SHO) L.B. Paswan said the intern has since absconded and raids are on at his likely hideouts. The SHO refused to disclose his name saying such disclosure at this stage would be counter-productive to the probe.

Virtually washing his hands of the incident, college principal H.G. Agrawal said the hospital superintendent and not he (exercised administrative control over interns and as such he was not in a position to take action against the intern.

Superintendent S.K. Sinha said he would extend all cooperation to the police and the court in bringing the culprit to book. The accused intern would be handed over to the police as and when he joins duty or returns to his room at the hostel.

Refuting the impression that the intern was being patronised and no disciplinary action had been taken by the hospital administration, the superintendent said the stage of disciplinary action has not arrived as yet. Action would follow as and when the court finds him guilty of the offence, he said.

RTI activist Brajnandan Pathak has demanded immediate arrest of the accused and his rustication from college. "The college authorities need not wait till the court verdict. They would be well within their rights to rusticate or suspend the accused intern," Pathak said. "Like Caesar's wife, medicos too should be above suspicion."
