Patna: The Bihar Mahila Samaj on Tuesday warned chief minister Nitish Kumar to ensure safety of women or face electoral consequences in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
A five-member delegation from the Samaj recently met the mother and daughter who were gang-raped in Gaya last week.
"There is no such thing like law and order in the state," said Sushila Sahay, president of the Samaj. "Culprits are committing crimes against women with impunity and the government is paying lip service in the name of women."
Nivedita Jha of the Samaj said: "Instead of treating women with honour the government accuses social media for spreading videos of rapes while the government keeps itself engaged in sloganeering in the name of women; it is disgraceful for women who came out in large numbers to vote the incumbent government."
The Samaj also slammed RJD leaders for revealing the identity of the gang-rape survivors, and said it was not just illegal but endangers the duo.
