Patna, Oct. 30: Say cheers, the Molson Coors Cobra will start manufacturing its premium beer in Bihar soon.

After beer baron Lord Karan Bilimoria-owned Molson Coors Cobra took over the Bihta-based brewery, Iceberg Industries Limited, in 2011 company sources said their premium product would be in the market soon.

The company would start manufacturing the Cobra beer from the Iceberg Industries Limited brewery, which manufactures Iceberg 9000. The Molson Coors Cobra had taken over Iceberg Industries Limited in February 2011.

The Bihta-based brewery, after being taken over by Molson Coors Cobra, started functioning from February 2012 at a capacity of 1,80,000 hectolitres with an initial investment of over Rs 40 crore.

Since then, the capacity of the brewery has increased to 3,60,000 hectolitres, sources said. Till now, the company has invested Rs 63 crore in the expanded project and aims to invest Rs 250 crore in Bihar.

“The King Cobra brand has been launched in Bihar as a test marketing exercise for a limited period. Post market feedback, the product has been improved and repackaged. It will be launched across the state very soon,” an official with the company said.

However, the company is yet to come up with a definite launch date of the brand or how much additional investment for the project will be made.

“At present, the Bihta brewery makes only Iceberg 9000 from the Molson Coors stable. Now, that the brewery has been modernised and expanded, King Cobra bottles will be rolled out alongside Iceberg 9000. The product will be brewed in Bihta. The modernisation and expansion of the brewery has sufficient capacity to meet the present and future demands for Iceberg 9000 and King Cobra from the company’s stable,” a company official said.

On Tuesday, Danny Alexander, the chief secretary to the Treasury (British cabinet minister-finance) and Sir James Bevan, the British high commissioner to India had visited the Bihta brewery and had toured its facilities.
