Patna, Jan. 25: Inmates of Beur Central Jail are in for a treat this Republic Day. Students and employees of Delhi Public School (DPS) will perform a cultural programme for them on January 26.
Some of them also came to the jail today for a final rehearsal for the programme tomorrow.
The theme of the event would be Van Vatsar or the International Year of Forests. DPS teacher Neelam Prabha has penned the songs.
Tabla players Raj Shekhar and Anil Kumar Pandey will accompany the team to the jail.
Prabha, who has been visiting the prison on a regular basis, said the inmates are very disciplined. She said though there was no foolproof method to save nature, one must continue the efforts.
Chandraboli Ganguli, the music teacher of the school, said: “The inmates always co-operate with us. They set an example for us.”
“Our students are eager to meet them,” said Ganguli.
The inmates too are eager to meet the students, said a source in the jail.
Around 20 students of classes VI to IX would visit the jail. “We are very excited to go to the prison and meet the inmates. We have heard about the experiences of the students who went last year,” said one of the students.
A teacher said: “I think it is essential to reach out to every section of society. Therefore, such endeavours should be encouraged.”
Some of the songs they shall perform to are Itne pyare din aur itne pyaari raatein. Prabha said: “This is a song of thanksgiving. It thanks God for making us what we are.”
“There is the possibility of a tree in every seed. Similarly, every child is also full of potential. That is the message I want to convey through my songs,” said Prabha.
She added: “A nation cannot survive only on politics. It needs people. First comes the public, then the republic.”
The schoolchildren and the inmates had also performed on Independence Day and Republic Day last year.
