Patna, Oct. 29: The prime accused in the murder of a businessman over a game of gamble on the eve of Diwali surrendered today at the city civil court.

Police were looking for Sudama Singh in connection with the killing of Doodhnath Singh, a trader from Nasriganj in Danapur, at a hotel on Exhibition Road in the capital.

“Doodhnath, who used to deal in house tiles, had reportedly won Rs 10 lakh while gambling and wanted to quit the game. But his opponents, particularly Sudama, did not agree to the proposal,” a police officer said.

“When Doodhnath left the hotel room despite stiff opposition from his opponents and walked towards his car parked on Dwarka Sao Lane in the same area, Sudama allegedly fired four rounds from his .22 bore pistol. The bullets hit Doodhnath in his stomach and legs,” the officer added.

The trader was admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on October 26.

Sources said Sudama, also a businessman, would be taken into remand for questioning. On the night of the incident, four persons, including Rajkumar, the owner of the hotel, were arrested.

In another incident related to gambling, a youth from Nawada committed suicide by jumping in front of Sanghamitra Express at Patna Junction last night.

A suicide note found on the body of Rahul, a resident of Nawada, revealed that he was reprimanded by his father for losing a huge amount of money while gambling on the eve of Diwali.

“The train was approaching platform number 1 when the youth jumped in front of it. Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel recovered the body and found a suicide note. He had sought apology from his father for his wrongdoings,” a GRP officer said.

His body was handed over to his parents following an autopsy, the officer added.
