Rural works department secretary B. Rajender said there would be no compromise on the quality in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Rajender was addressing a training workshop under a contractor outreach programme at SK Memorial Hall on Monday.

He said: “Neither a compromise would be made with the quality of roads in villages, nor would contractors be able to pressurise the engineers. Transparency and impartiality would be adopted in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. The implementation should be done on time and the quality should be really good. This would result in full satisfaction of the people.”

Rajender added that tenders should be passed on the basis of a checklist. “Debarred agencies would be given another chance,” he said.

R. Laxmanan, the additional secretary of the department, said under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the permission for the construction of 45,765km of roads and 308 bridges has been given in various stages.

“Construction of around 28,000km of roads has been done and the rest is being done,” he said.

Under the Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the permission for construction of 7,094km of roads has been given. Construction of around 5,968km of roads has been done.
