Patna, Aug. 1: Next time you go to the airport, think twice before puffing a cigarette or spitting. Hold your tongue too. Else, you might end up paying fine.

The airport authorities have come up with a circular for penalising people indulging in such acts. Issued today by the Patna airport director Arvind Dubey, the circular is accompanied by an exhaustive list of activities (see graphics) which would attract fine from the defaulters.

“In exercise of the powers conferred upon Airports Authority of India vide AAI (Management of Airports) Regulations 2003 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-III, Section 4 on July 3, 2003, the airport director is authorised to impose penalty for contravention of these regulations. Any person contravening any of the provisions of the said regulations shall be punishable with fine which may extend to Rs 500,” reads the circular.

The circular would be a deterrent for those daring to enter the airport premises in an inebriated state. Those found to be in a state of intoxication on the airport premises would have to cough up Rs 100 as fine. The same amount of fine would be imposed on those driving their vehicles at a speed more than 10kmph in the service area of the airport.

Even littering the airport would attract a fine of Rs 100. Same would be the case with those found guilty of misusing the passenger baggage trolleys.

Those present at the airport are also expected to keep their anger under control as using a language likely to cause offence/annoyance would attract a fine of Rs 100.

The circular has a clause, which would not please the workers of political parties. For, the circular clearly says that display of banners, flags, posters, emblems or writing slogans in or around the terminal would attract a fine of Rs 100.

The circular has also taken care of laxity on part of operators and has provisions which would attract fine from operators as well. One can take example of the clause, which talks of imposing a fine of Rs 200 in case a vehicle/equipment is left unattended on the airside. Generally only operators take vehicles and equipment on the airside. As far as implementation of clauses of the circular is concerned, the airport terminal manager has been given the responsibility of ensuring strict adherence to the clauses of the circular. He would have to be on move with security personnel to oversee that violators are made to pay fine.

“We stand for strict adherence to the points mentioned in the circular but at the same time we also hope that people concerned would understand the importance of this step and the need of imposing fine would not arise,” said the airport director.
