Purnea, Aug. 4: A 30-year-old man was electrocuted and his father injured while the latter was undergoing an X-ray test at a diagnositic clinic in the Line Bazaar area of the town this afternoon.

The deceased, Mohammad Islam, was a resident of Jiyanganj village under Sarsi police station, about 25km east of Purnea district headquarters.

Islam was in town for the treatment of his father, Mohammad Abdul Salam, police said.

A doctor had recommended an X-ray test for Salam, who was taken to the clinic by some unidentified middlemen. During the test, Islam was asked to hold the machine by a technician. He died on the spot after the X-ray machine was switched on, while Salam was injured.

Neither the technician nor the person/s who took the patient to the clinic have been arrested.

Deputy superintendent of police (sadar), Satish Kumar told The Telegraph: “A case has been registered in connection with the incident under Sahayak Khazanchi Haat police station against the owner of the clinic and the middle men who took Salam to this diagnostic centre. We have started a probe.”

Kumar said: “Islam’s body has been sent to Purnea sadar hospital for post-mortem. The report is awaited. Since there is no board of the doctor conducting the test at the clinic, it seems that the centre was being run illegally. Both the technician and the middle men are absconding.”
