Patna, Dec. 20: Two years hence, members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the Council would get duplex accommodation, two hostels, community centres, clubs and other facilities in the heart of the state capital.

The state cabinet today gave green light to the proposal to build 325 duplex bungalows (each with a floor area of 3,500sqft) at an estimated cost of Rs 307.73 crore. The project would benefit majority of the Assembly and Council members who reside in flats except for the few who reside in bungalows, cabinet co-ordination department principal secretary Ravi Kant told reporters in a post-cabinet briefing.

Giving details of the proposal, he said the duplex, hostels, community centres, clubs and other facilities would be constructed on 69.75 acre, including 39.63 acre in three places in R-Block, 23.25 acre in Daroga Prasad Rai Path and 5.97 acre in Beer Chand Patel Path by demolishing the existing structure.

The proposed colony at R-Block would have 175 duplex bungalows, the one at Daroga Prasad Rai Path 128 bungalows and Beer Chand Patel Marg the rest 28.

“The government would prepare the detailed project report after which it would invite tenders to start construction,” said Ravi Kant, adding that the duplex would be ready within two years from the date of awarding of the project. “Alternative arrangements would be made to accommodate the legislators and council members till they are given possession of the duplex,” he added.

The legislators are upbeat about the proposed plan. BJP MLA from Muzaffarpur Suresh Kumar Sharma said: “The existing flats of the legislators are in dilapidated condition. Ceiling plaster peel off and water supply is scarce. The new duplex could solve many inherent problems. These complexes would have hostels for accommodating guests. It is a welcome move of the state government.”

The state government has also decided to give Rs 250 to 37 lakh children between three and six years of age going to 92,000 Anganwadi kendras for buying uniforms,” Kant said.

The cabinet approved Bangalore-based M/s Kumar Tech Bio Products Private Limited’s proposal to invest Rs 306 crore for setting up a 30MW rice husk-based power plant on Khijarsarai Road in Gaya. The company has identified 70 acres for the project. An agreement has been reached to acquire 20 acres. The project would generate employment opportunities for around 300 skilled and unskilled people.

Kant also said that the cabinet approved the Union ministry of home affairs’ Rs 16.25-crore proposal on security-related expenditure for strengthening police stations and outposts in Maoist-hit infested districts.

A Rs 150.21-crore plan for installing and augmenting the capacity of distribution transformers of the state electricity board was also okayed.
