Muzaffarpur, Feb. 25: The stretch between Muzaffarpur and Samastipur of National Highway-28 has become unsafe for drivers.
Criminals reportedly lurk around this stretch at night and kill drivers before taking away their vehicles.
The district police have recovered a body reported to be of a driver along the stretch. The body was found hanging from a tree in Susta village on NH-28 near Muzaffarpur-Samastipur highway under Maniyari police station this morning.
A team from Maniyari police led by the deputy superintendent of police (DSP), headquarters, Manish Kumar visited the village to take stock of the situation. It appeared that the driver had been strangulated and hanged to the tree in a secluded place at Susta village, said sources. Kumar said: “This may have been done to destroy evidences of the murder. A gang of armed men were active along the NH-28 at the district and its adjoining areas.”
He said: “The body has been identified to be of a driver belonging to Mahuva village under Vaishali district. Investigation is on and the body has been sent for post-mortem.”
The Maniyari police have lodged an FIR.
