Patna: Question Hour in the Legislative Council began on a stormy note on Wednesday as RJD member Sanjay Prasad moved an adjournment motion as soon as the House began business.
In his adjournment motion, the RJD MLC said large-scale irregularities had taken place in the purchase of cobalt therapy machine and other equipment at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences but the matter had been put under the carpet by the NDA government of the state.
Sanjay said the purchase was done in 1996-97 after vigilance inquiry responsibilities were fixed and even FIR had been lodged. He said the inquiry was going on but the matter was not being pursued since the NDA government came to the power.
As the adjournment motion was rejected, RJD MLCs Sanjay Prasad, Subodh Kumar, Radha Charan Shah, Qumar Alam and Dilip Rai stormed into the Well of the House and started raising anti-government slogans. They staged the protest, during which former chief minister and senior RJD leader Rabri Devi remained seated at her place for about five minutes and returned to their seats after repeated requests from the vice-chairman.
However, things became chaotic again as Rabri suddenly stood up and started speaking against the government claiming it was lying and no curfew had been imposed in Aurangabad after group clashes.
The charge infuriated the Treasury bench and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi stood and told the Speaker something which could not be heard as members from both sides were speaking simultaneously on the issue.
Airport facilities
Energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav on Wednesday informed the Legislative Council about various works being done at Patna airport to improve facilities for passengers.
Replying to a question from CPI member Kedarnath Pandey about the problems faced by people in December last year and in January this year at the airport because of flight delays, Yadav read out from the details provided by the Airports Authority of India and said work was going on for adding better amenities at the airport.
