Chhapra, July 22: The daylight attack on the house of RJD MP from Maharajganj, Umashankar Singh has left Saran police pale faced.
The Saran police are yet to arrest any of the accused after three days of the incident.
The role of Chhapra Town police is also being questioned after Ghanshyam Singh alias Pappu Singh — who shares the building with Umashankar Singh — had gone to the police to inform that criminals with AK-47 had entered the house of the MP.
Station in-charge Arun Kumar Tiwary after hearing Pappu’s claim, rubbished that criminals with sophisticated weapons could not have come in the town.
The bigger question before the police is that within 30 minutes of the incident, the criminals took to their heels from the site of the incident.
This puts a question on the role of Saran police too.
Saran range deputy inspector-general (DIG) Sunil Kumar told that the approach of the town police station in-charge was not correct. “Was the station in-charge so confident that he did not pay attention to the information given by Pappu Singh? He should have immediately swung into action,” the DIG said.
Superintendent of police A.K. Satyarthi, too, said the station in-charge should have acted swiftly. “Proper action will be taken against the Town station in-charge for his lackadaisical approach,” the SP added. Satyarthi said police are conducting raids to arrest the criminals. “Different teams have been sent to the adjoining districts and states to nab the criminals. Police have left no stone unturned,” he said.
He said the police have sought before the court to issue warrants and order to confiscate the properties of the accused persons in the FIR lodged with the town police by Shashi Bhushan, brother of one of the deceased, Mani Bhushan. The police have come up with the theory that the attack was a culmination of a feud between two families. This incident has again showed that there is close proximity between politics and crime.
Another theory making the rounds in the political arena here is that Ayub-Raees gang, which is said to possess AK-47 and other sophisticated weapons, is behind the massacre. The gang harbours the ambition of making Kamrul Haque, retired havildar and father of Ayub and Raees, the next MLA from Daraunda Assembly segment, which has fallen vacant after the death of JD(U) MLA Jagmato Devi. Jagmato Devi’s son Ajay Singh may be a candidate according to political discussions. Ayub and Raees gang had been at war with Ajay Singh’s gang for years.
Pappu Singh was kidnapped by Ayub-Raees gang and the case is on in one of the courts at Chhapra.
