Patna: The Congress organised sit-in protests at the 38 district headquarters in the state on Monday to raise the problems being faced by farmers and demand quick redressal.
The dharnas were organised with the help of party district committees. The prominent among the demands was to restart the closed sugar mills across Bihar, payment of sugarcane dues, and purchasing wheat and maize at minimum support price.
All India Congress Committee Bihar in-charge Shaktisinh Gohil had announced demonstration for farmers' cause in the state will be organised and it resulted in Monday's protest. The demonstration in Patna was organised by Patna Mahanagar Congress Committee at Gardanibagh and led by Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president in-charge Kaukab Quadri and legislature party leader Sadanand Singh.
Kaukab said: "Our party president Rahul Gandhi is concerned about the condition of farmers and Congress will not remain quiet if the central and the state governments do not take immediate action to end the suffering of farmers."
