Patna, Oct. 23: A child is never responsible for his or her bad handwriting. A child’s scrawl reflects his or her neurological condition, claimed handwriting expert Himanshu Shekhar at a seminar in the state capital today.

“Disgraphia — or the disorientation of graphics — is a condition that makes it difficult for the patient to understand the mechanical aspects of handwriting,” said Shekhar at a meet on “Effects of handwriting on the academics of a student”, organised by Write.

“A person suffering from this disease will write alphabets of different sizes and slants. In a class, almost 50 per cent students can have bad handwriting. But teachers and parents often don’t know the reason for it,” he added.

Shekhar also said early treatment could prevent or cure the problems. “Through regular exercise and guidance, hand muscles can be trained to remember the shape and size of alphabets.

“The handwriting of a child should be analysed and problems sorted out. A trainer needs to be patient.”
