| A lorry burns near the entrance of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in Raxaul on Friday morning. The overloaded truck of a Delhi-based transport company, which reached the district late on Thursday night and was parked near the IOC gate, suddenly caught fire after coming in contact with a high-tension electric supply wire. The IOC employees contained the fire in 20 minutes. The consignment on the truck was to be offloaded on Friday morning. Most of the polythene articles on the truck were gutted. This was the second such incident at the same spot in a little over three weeks. On March 7, an empty IOC tanker caught fire after a high-tension wire fell on it. The tanker was partially damaged. Raxaul sub-divisional magistrate blamed the laxity of the electricity department for such fire incidents occurring near the IOC premises frequently. “The executive engineer of Raxaul, who has joined here recently, has been asked to replace the entire power supply wire network in the town at the earliest to avert such incidents in the future. The district magistrate of East Champaran has also been informed about the mishap,” he said. Text by RN Sinha, picture by Jai Prakash |
