The education department on Monday assured Intermediate students, alleging irregularities in evaluation, of redress by June 20.
Students of Intermediate science and commerce have been protesting against the low pass percentage in the examination — conducted by Bihar School Examination Board — over the past few days. The results were declared on May 27. While 66.01 per cent science students passed the examination, 82.6 per cent students passed in commerce.
Last year, the pass percentage in science and commerce stood at 92 per cent and 94.4 per cent, respectively.
Students, especially those in the science stream, protested in front of the Bihar School Examination Board’s office. The department sources said introduction of a subjective format, doing away with multiple-objective type answers, could be one of the main reasons for the low pass percentage.
Principal secretary, education, Amarjeet Sinha said: “I appeal to all the aggrieved students not to come out to the roads and streets to protest. If there has been any fault in the evaluation, it would be resolved. We will satisfy each and every candidate. I assure you that rectification would be done if there has been any fault on part of the board. We are ready to show the copies (answer sheets) to the examinees.”
State board chairperson Rajmani Prasad Sinha said it has received around 4,500 complaints so far. He referred to cases where students claimed to have cleared the IIT-JEE (Advanced) and AIIMS examinations but not Intermediate (science). He added that the board would try to redress all the complaints by June 20.
