Darbhanga, May 23: Students of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) will not have to go out for refreshments or groceries. They will now get everything on the campus.

Facilities like a grocery shop, a stationery shop, a canteen and even a salon will soon open on the DMCH campus shortly.

Sources said the college administration has decided to make these facilities available to the medicos after a clash between residents of Alalpatti Chowk and the medical students on May 19. Four students were seriously injured in the clash, which was a result of an altercation between the medicos and a shopowner.

DMCH principal S.N. Sinha told The Telegraph that he would soon hold a meeting with the district magistrate, executive engineers of the public works, the water supply and the electricity departments within a week.

“We have long felt the need for providing such facilities on the campus. I want to take firm action in this regard,” said Sinha.

He added: “We need to take a no-objection certificate from the public works department to start the construction of the boundary wall and other works. Once we get that, we will draw up a plan for the basic facilities that the students need.”

Medicos, too, welcomed the move. “If we get all the basic amenities such as a stationery shop, a canteen or a salon on the college campus, we will have no need to go out of the campus,” said Ajmal, a DMCH student.

He added: “The college has around 1,000 students in different departments. However, there are hardly any facility available on the campus.”
